In a ceremony with NRW Science Minister Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen on November 21, building owner and foundation board member Patrick Schwarz-Schütte (Schwarz-Schütte Förderstiftung GmbH) officially handed over the extension to the oeconomicum (Building 24.31), home of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, to Heinrich Heine University. The strong growth of the faculty in recent years had made it necessary to extend the building. At the time, the oeconomicum was designed for around 1,500 students and 130 employees. Since then, the Faculty of Economics has grown steadily. Currently, more than 20 professors teach around 2,300 students on eight different courses. Two new additional economics endowed professorships have also been made possible. The two new endowed professorships are in the highly topical field of behavioral economics. In addition to the four endowed professorships already created, they are intended to expand and round off the profile of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics in the field of “competition” at the DICE, which is known throughout Germany, and open up the possibility of acquiring further research projects – including in the area of collaborative research. HHU Rector and Chairwoman of Wissensregion Düsseldorf, Prof. Dr. Anja Steinbeck: “Competition is at the heart of our Faculty of Business and Economics’ research: with this focus, it has a unique position in the German-speaking world.” The aim of the faculty is to establish itself as the top address for business and economic issues relating to competition research and to occupy a leading position in Europe in these subject areas.

Düsseldorf as a top location for business studies and economics

The MBA program at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management with its campus in Düsseldorf holds a top position in the German competition: according to the Financial Times 2019 ranking, it is the No. 1 MBA program that can be studied full-time or part-time.
Specialized courses such as IT Management or Business and Law can also be studied part-time at the FOM University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf.
The economics courses at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences offer an international focus and practical relevance.
All three universities are networked as part of the Wissensregion Düsseldorf.
Not only the extension of the oeconomicum clearly shows: If you want to study business administration/economics, Düsseldorf is the right place for you.
Whether it’s a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, full-time or part-time, with a focus on communication, finance or a classic MBA: when it comes to economics, the choice could hardly be greater.
