The renaming of the Max Planck Institute for Iron Research

Since August 27, 2024, the Max Planck Institute for Iron Research GmbH has officially had a new name: Max Planck Institute for Sustainable Materials GmbH – a significant step that reflects the change in the institute’s research.
We, the Wissensregion Düsseldorf, would like to congratulate the institute on this significant milestone.

A magnet for international talent

The article in the Rheinische Post on March 28, 2023 highlights the Wissensregion Düsseldorf initiative, which aims to keep foreign students and researchers in the region.
In cooperation with well-known companies such as Henkel and the Max Planck Institute, as well as the Düsseldorf Chamber of Industry and Commerce, improved integration programs and networking opportunities are being created.
These measures are intended not only to attract talent, but also to retain it in the region in the long term, thereby consolidating education and knowledge as central pillars of local development and location marketing.

Workshop with regional management

The Düsseldorf – Mettmann district region demonstrates remarkable innovation potential in various areas of technology.
A workshop on “Promoting innovation in the region – potential in the circular economy” highlighted the need for improved cooperation between companies, universities and public administrations.
The challenges posed by EU funding programs and the administrative burden were also discussed.

Innovation semester 2023/24: Search for course instructors

The application phase for course instructors for the “Innovation Semester 2023/24” has begun.
Submit your project ideas by June 16!
Take the opportunity to implement innovative projects with interdisciplinary teams.
You can win project funding of up to €750, teaching time or remuneration.

Article about WRD and iSem in the RP

The Rheinische Post also reported on its university website about the Wissensregion Düsseldorf and the 4th Innovation Semester: “Out of the lecture hall – into practice”.
Students, trainees and professionals can spend a semester producing their own music, brewing beer or designing a virtual exhibition in an interdisciplinary way.
Thinking outside the student box is an essential part of the innovation semester.

The film of the BREWNO course

The winning team of the “Innovation Semester 2022/23” impressed the “Wissensregion Düsseldorf” jury not only with the taste of their home-brewed beer, but above all with their impressive presentation of the results.
Their self-made video impressively shows how the different participants became a team in which everyone was able to contribute his or her skills.
The aim was to capture the collaborative process of brewing beer on camera.

Prof. Dr. Edeltraud Vomberg elected as new Chairwoman

Prof. Dr. Edeltraud Vomberg is the new Chairwoman of the Association for the Promotion of Wissensregion Düsseldorf e.V., while Prof. Dr. Anja Steinbeck moves to Deputy Chairwoman.
The role reversal, officially completed on 13 May 2022, emphasizes the association’s idea of flexible cooperation and networking at eye level.

“inside iSem” – the short podcast for the innovation semester is here!

The Innovation Semester (iSem) format, which is unique in Germany, will take place for the fourth time in 2022/23 and will be accompanied by the new podcast “inside iSem”.
In the first episode, available on our homepage and Spotify, Managing Director Dr. Kai de Weldige introduces the association and provides insights into the projects.
Interested course instructors can submit their project proposals until June 20, 2022.

Gregor Berghausen named “Düsseldorf resident of the year 2021”

Wissensregion Düsseldorf e.V. congratulates Gregor Berghausen on being named “Düsseldorf Business Person of the Year 2021” in the business category.
Berghausen, IHK Managing Director, was honored for his outstanding achievements and support during the corona pandemic.
We appreciate his commitment and are delighted with this well-deserved recognition.
