The Innovation Semester format (iSem for short), which is unique in Germany, is relaunching with its own podcast.
Strengthening media presence in the 4th round
The Innovation Semester, supported by the Verein zur Förderung der Wissensregion Düsseldorf e.V., will take place for the fourth time in 2022/23 and will be accompanied by even more intensive media coverage.
Project manager Keiko Ito came up with the idea of launching her own short podcast – said and done!
Last week, the first episode of “inside iSem” appeared on our homepage and on Spotify.
In the initially 10 planned editions, information, sound bites, impressions and experiences relating to the current innovation semester will be conveyed.
Regardless of whether you are already familiar with the format or are just getting to know it – we cordially invite you to take an acoustic look behind the scenes with us!
First episode with Managing Director Dr. Kai de Weldige
The episodes, conceived and produced by Keiko Ito, will each last around 10 minutes and will appear every two to three weeks during the iSem.
Both course instructors and participants, association members and companions will have their say.
The podcast thus offers the opportunity to convey all important information about the format in a timely manner and to report on current results from the various courses.
In the first episode, Dr. Kai de Weldige, Managing Director of Wissensregion Düsseldorf e.V., is our guest and, together with Keiko Ito, briefly introduces the association, talks about the variety of projects from previous years and takes a look ahead: What can we expect in the 4th edition of the successful lighthouse project?
[perfectpullquote align=”left” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”You learn for life in the innovation semester!” – Dr. Kai de Weldige at “inside iSem”[/perfectpullquote] “It’s about broadening horizons, curiosity about topics that are still unknown, the ability to familiarize yourself with new things, in short: you learn for life,” summarizes Kai de Weldige.
The innovation semester started for the first time in 2018/19 with 8 courses, with a total of 16 courses the following year.
In 2020/21, 10 courses were held digitally – and there should be around the same number of projects when the iSem can finally take place in person again this year after a break due to the pandemic!
Application phase for course instructors has started
Interested course leaders have until June 20, 2022 to submit their project proposals for the Innovation Semester 2022/23.

We look forward to your proposal!
The courses will start at the end of October with a joint kick-off event.
After the approximately four-month work phase, the results will then be presented to the other courses and the general public at the big final event in March 2023.
Students and trainees who are interested in taking part can find all the important information here and in our FAQ.
The application phase will then start in mid/end July.
