Regional players at the school/career/study interface showcase the variety of opportunities in Düsseldorf and the Mettmann district at the “Chancengipfel”. On the initiative of Andreas Schmitz, President of the Düsseldorf Chamber of Industry and Commerce, a large number of regional players relevant to the school/career transition came together for the first time last Tuesday at the digital “Chancengipfel”.
Members of Wissensregion Düsseldorf e.V. were also represented: the Düsseldorf Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Düsseldorf Chamber of Crafts, the City of Düsseldorf, Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf and the FOM University of Applied Sciences for Economics & Management (Düsseldorf campus).
In addition, the Association of Liberal Professions, the German Trade Union Federation Düsseldorf Bergisch-Land, the Mettmann district and the Düsseldorf and Mettmann district employment agencies also took part.
The event showed that the variety of advisory services and support available when looking for a training or study place is just as great as the variety of possible training positions and courses of study in the region.
Due to the corona pandemic, advisory services are also available digitally – so the distances are even shorter.
There are also numerous models for school leavers to choose from: many professions can be learned as part of a dual training program or a part-time degree course.
The employment agencies have so far been notified of 4,800 training places for the start of training in 2021.
There are currently still over 3,200 vacancies in Düsseldorf and the Mettmann district.

There are around 300 degree courses in the Wissensregion Düsseldorf and around 54,000 people are currently studying in Düsseldorf and Mettmann.
Note: The figures represent the member universities of the Association for the Promotion of Wissensregion Düsseldorf.
(as of April 17, 2021) At the opportunity summit, the participating stakeholders emphasized that the opportunities for school leavers are good despite the coronavirus pandemic and also encouraged parents and teachers to take action.
It is important to explore the full range of prospects and career options – for example through the Bildungswegenavigator(www.biwenav.de) for the Düsseldorf area, the winning project in the 2019/20 innovation semester.
With a joint appeal, the participating institutions encouraged the 2021 school leavers, showed them opportunities and assured them of their support.
The IHK Düsseldorf has compiled further information on the range of advisory services, statements from the individual cooperation partners and the exact wording of the appeal on its website: https://www.duesseldorf.ihk.de/presse/aktuell/chancengipfel-2021-appelliert-an-schulabsolventen-innen-5099542.
